Getting older brings a plethora of changes in all realms of life. Emotional, physical, and mental health goes through a flurry of change. Some of these changes are considered positive and some negative. We all want to be fit and healthy at every stage of life. The challenge is to take proactive steps to maintain your lifestyle and health and minimize negative aspects. As we grow old, there are many changes to our digestion, mood, immune system, and overall fitness levels.

Aging is not about trying to look like a 20 or 30-year-old. It is about living the best moments of life and having the physical and emotional health to enjoy it. One of the most important factors we need to consider is keeping our digestive health intact. Here are some things you can practice to ensure your quest to age is a happy one.

Mind your diet to ensure your digestive system is normal.

We have all heard of the 80 – 20 rule about exercise and diet. It is the golden rule to stay healthy and fit. Healthy foods are the way to go when it comes to managing to grow older. With increasing age, our body needs a list of additional nutrients to ensure we are at the top of our game. One must include fruits, vegetables, protein, whole grains, cereals, rice, fat-free dairy products, and healthy fats.

Digestive health leads to a better immune system, better energy levels and ensures you are healthier.

I recently switched my regular flour with Aashirvaad Atta with Multigrains. It comes with the goodness of 6 grains, is high in fibre which supports digestion. The best part is that 3 rotis made with multigrain atta have the same dietary fibre as 6 carrots or 4 beetroots. Earlier, mixing different flours for better digestive health used to be a cumbersome task, but now when I want to satiate the food cravings of my family, using this Atta always adds the needed nutrients to your diet.

Be kind to yourself and your skin

Growing old is inevitable. There is no point in fretting over the process of aging. Your emotional health is what regulates your physical health as well. Additionally, your skin is the largest organ of your body. It helps to protect your body from external elements, provides sensation, and regulates your body temperature. Make sure you hydrate it well and use sunscreen and be gentle on your skin. To elevate your mental well-being, indulge in things that make you happy, like reading a book, dancing, music, or practicing a hobby.

Exercise regularly

Regular exercise not only keeps your body moving and significantly lowers your risk of diseases. Additionally, it helps you to retain your mobility for longer. The benefits of exercise are many, and some of them include lower stress, better sleep, skin and bone health, and better mood as well. Walking, swimming, dancing, cycling, yoga are simple and work wonders.

Ensure you go for regular checkups

While I have altered my diet and replaced regular flour with Aashirvaad Atta with Multigrains for pancakes, roti, parathas, and even a simple sponge cake, I also ensure that I schedule regular checkups with my doctor. If I notice any bodily changes, I always make sure to talk about them with my doctor.

We often ignore mood swings and pay no heed to it. One must also take care of their dental hygiene, and take all medications as prescribed by the doctor. Ensure that your diet is a good mix of multigrain, essential nutrients, stay socially active, and continue finding new hobbies. Aging can be a challenging process for most of us. There will always be certain factors that will not be in our control, but ensuring we eat right and take care of our digestive health is something we can do. A happy tummy for a happy you is the right start to better health.
