Introduction

As a lot of us are aware, lifestyle changes and poor eating habits have resulted in a lot of digestive health diseases. This is why we see a lot of people, especially the younger generation dealing with different kinds of issues like constipation, indigestion and acidity. Most of these problems occur because of our inclination towards unhealthy eating and not paying heed to our digestive health.

I still remember the time when we’d moved to a new city with a small kid. It meant that I had to raise the kid all by myself with no help from my family. After the initial euphoria of tasting freedom and doing everything on my own, there came a point when the child wouldn’t defecate for three days straight.

Even after trying out every trick in my kitty, nothing worked out. I had to set aside my ego and call my saviour, my mother. She shared five remedial recipes made from ingredients you can find in your kitchen cabinet. Here are the five home remedies my mom shared.

Home Remedies

  1. Soak seeded raisins overnight, and have them along with the soaked water, first thing in the morning. You need five raisins for children and around ten for adults.
  2. Add a spoonful of clarified butter (ghee) in hot milk and drink it before bedtime, or add it to a glass of lukewarm water and drink it first thing in the morning.
  3. Dry roast a tablespoon of cumin seeds and 10 peppercorns, grind them into a fine powder along with a pinch of salt as required. Mix it with hot rice and ghee, and have it during lunch right before your regular meals. This helps in improving gut health and eases your digestion process.
  4. Crush a few pieces of ginger and steep them in hot water until their flavour is infused. Filter the water and have it when it’s still lukewarm. Add a few drops of lemon juice to make it more refreshing. Ginger helps improve bowel movement while citrus stimulates colon motility.
  5. Make sure to drink plenty of lukewarm water throughout the day and consume fibre-rich foods like citrus fruits, apples, bananas, greens, sprouts, vegetables, whole grains and legumes regularly.

I followed my mother’s advice to the T and was finally able to relieve my child of the stress caused by prolonged constipation. Although I tried integrating all her home remedies, there is something that especially piqued my interest, which was to consume fibre-rich foods. I started reading about it online to see how a high fibre diet benefits our overall health.

Multigrain Atta

That was when I got introduced to Aashirvaad Atta with Multigrains and then my mother also kept raving about it on the phone. Aashirvaad Atta with Multigrains is made with the goodness of six different grains like soya, wheat, maize, oats, channa and psyllium husk, and is high in fibre which supports digestion.

This multigrain atta was truly a blessing for mothers like me, who want the best of both worlds. I was both time-restrained as well as space-restrained to dry the grains and take a trip to the flour mill to grind them with precision. Aashirvaad Atta with Multigrains spared me all this work. And, the rotis turn out much softer without any difference in the taste. Isn’t that amazing?

Digestive Quotient

Recently, I have become a lot more conscious of our everyday diet than I used to be since I understood that our overall health is largely determined by our digestive health. So, I do try to keep a track of how I’m performing in terms of my digestive health by checking my DQ score on HappyTummy.aashirvaad.com. My recent DQ score was 83, and needless to say, I was very happy to learn that my digestive system is in good shape!

You too can take this test and let me know your DQ scores in the comments section below.
