Dear Ramesh narsipuram, Thank you for the question

Wheat is the most important stable food crop for more than one third of the world population and contributes more calories and proteins to the world diet than any other cereal crops.

  • It is nutritious, easy to store and can be processed into various types of food. Wheat is considered a good source of protein, minerals, B-group vitamins and dietary fiber, it is an excellent health-building food. Wheat flour is used to prepare bread, produce biscuits, confectionary products, noodles and vital wheat gluten or seitan.
  • Wheat is also a good source of traces minerals like selenium and magnesium, nutrients essential for physiological functioning.
  • Due to its low GI (glycaemic index) properties it is considered as a good diabetic cereal as it does not rapidly increase the blood sugar levels compared to other cereals such as jowar, rice, ragi, etc.
  • High fiber content of wheat or wheat products have various gastrointestinal health benefits such as aids in Constipation, maintains healthy gut bacteria, delayed gastric emptying.
  • Higher intake of whole grain such as wheat, millets or multigrain have been associated with a lower prevalence or risk of hypertension or raised blood pressure, hypertriglyceridemia, and lower concentrations of total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, Higher fibre intake has been associated with reduced risk of coronary heart disease.

Wheat and wheat products can be included in the daily diet if an individual is not allergic or intolerant to gluten which is  a complex protein present in the outer layer of some grains, especially wheat.

Wheat along with other cereals must be consumed as part of daily balanced diet.

Hope we have answered your query.

Wishing you a great day ahead
