Late Dinner Is the New Normal. Here’s the Fix.

Late dinner?  Skip the guilt

A late meal does not need a perfect menu. Timing is only one part of how dinner ends up making you feel.

#1. Keep dinner smaller

If dinner is late, keep the portion modest. Think dal-rice, khichdi, soup, or just roti with a simple sabzi.

#2. Go easy on the extras

A very rich meal can feel like a lot at bedtime. Save fried sides, heavy gravies and big desserts for another occasion.

#3. Eat slowly

Odd hours can turn dinner into a rushed affair. Sit down, eat at a comfortable pace, and notice when you are full.

#4. Choose your drink

Water is the simplest companion. If you want tea or coffee, remember caffeine late in the day can affect sleep.

#5. Give yourself a buffer

Leave some time between dinner and bed if you can. Even a short wind-down makes a late meal feel less rushed.

#6. Do not overcorrect

A long workday can leave you ravenous. Do not ‘make up’ for the late hour by starving yourself — eat a sensible meal.

The late-dinner rule

Keep it simple but effective: smaller portion, fewer rich extras, slower eating, and some time before bed.
